Augusta ? Striping crews will be hitting the road next week for the annual highway striping project throughout the entire state. I-95, 295 and 395 will be re-done with new paint on the center lines, edge lines as well as on and off ramps.
Several crews will be laying down new paint, so motorists are advised to use caution and keep a safe distance from the paint trucks. Wayne Arsenault, Traffic Operations Manager for MaineDOT?s Traffic Engineering Section says, ?Although MaineDOT uses fast-drying, water-borne paint, some drivers invariably end up getting fresh white or yellow paint on their vehicles. The real key to avoid getting paint on your car or truck is using common sense around the striper trucks.? Arsenault says if paint does end up on a vehicle, the operator has three to four hours to wash it off. After that, he notes, a specialist will need to be employed to get it removed. ?But the best bet is to stay off the wet paint until it dries,? says Arsenault.
While weather dependent, the striping efforts are expected to last until mid-August.
