ELIOT - The Maine Department of Transportation will be replacing a culvert on Route 236 in Eliot. The project location is approximately 0.3 miles south of the intersection of Route 236 and Depot Road. We are replacing the old culvert with a bigger one. This will improve drainage and allow safe movement of the Blanding's turtle an endangered species that has recently experienced a high mortality rate on this section of road.
Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 26th. Drivers may encounter single lane closures between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. If night work becomes necessary, single lane closures will be permitted between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Lane closures are not allowed during peak commuting hours. Drivers may encounter lane shifts throughout the duration of the project. Also, we are allowing the contractor to fully close this section Route 236 during the first weekend of May. This part of the road will be closed from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30th until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, May 3rd. Signage will direct drivers to a detour involving Route 101 (Goodwin Road) and Beech Road. We expect this project will be completed by Friday, May 14th.
The contractor on this project is LIMC Corp of Kennebunk. The contract amount is $288,120.
