CUMBERLAND COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be making safety improvements along Route 701 in South Portland and Scarborough beginning on July 7th. Crews will be doing paving, guardrail, and median work along a nearly-two-mile-long stretch of road. Work will be done at night (between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.) from Sunday nights through Saturday mornings. Traffic may be reduced to one lane at times, and exit ramps may be closed between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. during construction. Pike Industries, Inc. of Fairfield is the contractor on this project, which is expected to be finished by September 20th.
