Repairs Commence on Tukey's Bridge on I-295 Southbound In Portland

As paving and repair work commences on Tukey?s Bridge on I-295 southbound in Portland, construction crews have established a long-term lane closure for the Washington Avenue on-ramp to I-295 southbound. The Washington Avenue on-ramp is now one lane instead of two lanes, as the right-hand lane of the on-ramp will remain closed until all work has been completed on bridge. This lane closure extends north on Washington Avenue to Presumpscot Street, and may cause some delays for morning commuters. Motorists should allow extra time or use an alternate route.

During the day, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., three lanes of traffic will remain open over Tukey?s Bridge on I-295 southbound. Traffic will be reduced to two lanes between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Work will continue both day and night.

Officials expect the work on Tukey?s Bridge to be completed by the end of July, although the work schedule is weather-dependent and may change.

On I-295 northbound, crews continue nighttime guardrail and other work. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., and 8 p.m. Saturday until noon on Sunday.

Drivers on I-295 are advised to pay close attention to signage connected with the repair work especially signs indicating reduced speed zones. For more information and to sign up for email alerts, please go to mainedot.gov.

This effort is part of a substantial I-295 repair and improvement project that will be ongoing through the fall of this year. Roadway and bridge repair work has been structured to minimize the impact on motorists while improving the safety and enjoyment of traveling one of Maine?s most popular highways.

MaineDOT appreciates the patience of all motorists during this construction period, and also asks motorists to drive safely through all work zones.
