HAMPDEN - On Friday, May 21st, the Maine Department of Transportation will celebrate the opening of the Grist Mill Bridge, which carries Routes 1A and 9 over Souadabscook Stream in Hampden. This bridge uses composite girders that were designed and patented by the University of Maine in collaboration with AIT Bridges. The technology is lighter, designed to require less maintenance, and expected to last up to 25 years longer than conventional bridges.
