BANGOR - The Ohio Street Bridge replacement project in Bangor is nearing completion. Construction of the new bridge continues. In the coming weeks, crews will focus on restoring the I-95 traffic pattern and finishing weather-sensitive night work. The Maine Department of Transportation plans to open the new bridge to traffic in early October. We appreciate the patience of the members of the traveling public while we complete this important work.
The previous Ohio Street Bridge was approximately 60 years old and was approaching the end of its useful life. The new structure includes non-corrosive materials to reduce future maintenance needs. The new bridge also provides an additional 18 inches of clearance for vehicles on the interstate. This project added a turning lane on Ohio Street for vehicles turning onto the ramp to travel southbound on I-95.
The contractor on this work is T. Buck Construction, Inc. of Turner. The contract amount is $5,968,445.
