BATH - The Maine Department of Transportation is conducting more overnight paving work on Route 1 in Bath this week. This work is part of a larger paving project on Route 1 that stretches more than five miles from the Cook's Corner Interchange in Brunswick to the Bath Viaduct and Sagadahoc Bridge. Northeast Paving is the contractor on this project. The current contract amount is $17,066,562.
On Monday, August 31st, the Congress Avenue on- and off-ramps on the southbound side of Route 1 will be closed at 9:00 p.m. for paving operations. At 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1st, crews will close the New Meadows on- and off-ramps on the southbound side of Route 1. At 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2nd, paving operations will occur on New Meadows northbound on- and off-ramps. On Thursday, September 3rd, crews will pave the Congress Avenue on- and off-ramps on the northbound side of Route 1. All ramps will reopen at 6:00 a.m. on the day after they are closed. We will not be conducting any paving operations over the holiday weekend.
Signs will direct drivers to detours. We need to close the ramps during paving operations due to the size of the equipment and the safety of the traveling public and workers. Closing the ramps during operations will allow the work to be done more quickly. Like all outside construction work, this schedule is weather-dependent.
