MEDIA AVAILIBILITY – Acadia Gateway Center Opening

AUGUSTA- May 13, 2026- The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT), in partnership with the National Park Service, Friends of Acadia, Downeast Transportation, and regional tourism leaders, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Trenton to celebrate the opening of the Acadia Gateway Center.

Media are invited to attend this milestone event marking the completion of a transformative transportation and visitor services hub designed to enhance access to Acadia National Park and Downeast Maine while helping reduce congestion on Mount Desert Island.

The Acadia Gateway Center (AGC) is an intermodal transit and welcome center serving visitors traveling to Acadia National Park and surrounding communities. The facility includes approximately 300 free day-use parking spaces — including 18 EV charging spaces and 10 oversized vehicle spaces — along with connections to the Island Explorer transit system and commercial tour buses.

The approximately 11,000-square-foot center also features park and regional tourism information, retail space, restrooms, and visitor waiting areas, creating a welcoming first stop for travelers exploring Downeast Maine.
