MaineDOT to Temporarily Close the Ferry Point Bridge in Calais

Drivers should plan for detours.

CALAIS – October 1, 2026 —Starting October 13, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will temporarily close the Ferry Point Bridge over the St. Croix River which connects Calais, Maine and St. Stephen, New Brunswick for six weeks for a bridge rehabilitation project.

The project work includes deck rehabilitation and bridge joint repair on the Maine side of this international border crossing. Work is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Motorists traveling between Calais and St. Stephen should use the Milltown International Bridge (8 AM to 4 PM ET) or the International Avenue Bridge/St. Stephen Third Bridge (24 hours). Commercial traffic must use the International Avenue Bridge, also known as Third Bridge.

Travelers should expect delays, plan extra travel time, and follow all posted signs and directions in the work area.

MaineDOT appreciates the public’s patience as crews complete this work to maintain the safety and reliability of the Ferry Point Bridge.
