MaineDOT to Replace Mill Cove Bridge in Robbinston
Drivers should plan for one-way alternating traffic.
ROBBINSTON– May 8, 2026 — Starting May 11, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will begin the removal and replacement of the Mill Cove Bridge over Mill Cove in Robbinston.
A temporary detour is being constructed with an 18-foot-wide, alternating single-lane traffic pattern.
Motorists traveling through the detour will be guided by temporary signals, while Ridge Road traffic will be managed with temporary stop bars.
Motorists should expect periodic stops due to timed signals. Wide loads exceeding 18 feet in width or under 4 feet in height may encounter difficulties navigating the detour. Reduced speeds are required throughout the area.
The project work consists of replacing the existing culvert with a 120-foot concrete girder bridge, stabilizing river slopes with riprap, removing the old Route 1 bridge and roadway, and restoring the Mill Brook tidal drainage to the St. Croix River. The detour will maintain traffic flow along Route 1 during construction.
Work is expected to be completed by Fall 2027.
The contractor for this project is Reed & Reed of Woolwich, Maine.
The contract amount is $7,396,995.00.
