MaineDOT to Perform Intersection Work on Route 111
Drivers should plan for delays.
LYMAN – March 24, 2026 — On March 23, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) started intersection improvement work on Route 111 at the intersection of Kennebunk Pond Road and Day Road.
Two-way traffic will be maintained during the day, though lane shifts will occur to accommodate construction. During the duration of the project, there may be lane closures requiring one-way alternating traffic, between 6PM and 7AM.
The project work will include installing new traffic signals and technology to help emergency vehicles move through the area more efficiently. Crews will also build two raised islands to better separate eastbound and westbound traffic as it approaches the intersection. The road will be widened to add dedicated left-turn lanes and shared lanes for through and right-turning vehicles, improving both safety and traffic flow.
Additional improvements will include upgraded drainage systems, with one new catch basin, several new drainage pipes, and a new driveway culvert. Crews will also install new guardrails and safety end pieces in the southwest section of the intersection.
The work is expected to be completed by July 2026.
The contractor for this project is Shaw Brothers Construction of Gorham, Maine.
The contract amount is $1,806,000.
