Kennebunk/Arundel, ME — The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will close the Days Mills Bridge on Alewive Road (Route 35) over the Kennebunk River beginning Monday, September 15, to allow for the removal and replacement of the existing bridge.
The bridge is expected to reopen by July 2026.
This project was originally scheduled to begin in March 2026, which would have required the bridge to remain closed for the entire 2026 construction season. By advancing the start date, MaineDOT will be able to reopen the bridge and roadway earlier than originally planned.
During construction, Alewive Road (Route 35) will be closed to all vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. Drivers should follow the signed detour using the Maine Turnpike and State Route 111.
The contractor for this project is Wyman & Simpson, Inc. of Richmond, Maine.
