GARDINER - Maine Avenue in Gardiner Down to One Lane
Monday, June 3 - Saturday, June 8
Monday, June 10th Friday, June 14th
Maine Avenue in Gardiner, Route 24, in the vicinity of the Maine Avenue Bridge will be down to one lane of traffic over the next two weeks. During this time, the contractor will be placing the underground steel supports that will hold up the new bridge. Because of the significant noise, this work is being allowed between 6 AM and 8 PM. Flaggers will be on hand to control the alternating lanes of traffic. Motorists should expect delays or seek alternate routes.
This work is part of a comprehensive set of transportation improvements including complete bridge replacements for both the Bridge Street (Route 201) and the Maine Avenue (Route 24) Bridges, an extension of the Kennebec River Recreation Trail, a new multi-use bridge over the stream, intersection improvements in the downtown area, and significant utility upgrades. Work on this $12.6 million project is expected be largely completed by the end of 2020. Reed & Reed is the contractor for the project.
