Augusta ? The Maine Department of Transportation and the Maine Department of Public Safety are asking for the public?s help in making sure smokers extinguish their cigarettes inside of their vehicles.
Recent roadside fires have been attributed to lit cigarettes being discarded out of the vehicle?s window and onto the roadway where they have rolled into the surrounding grass and brush. The fire danger is worsened during the warm and dry weather.
Please help to prevent these incidents from occurring by making sure the cigarette is extinguished and not thrown out the window.
