AROOSTOOK AND PENOBSCOT COUNTIES - The Maine Department of Transportation is beginning the second year of a two-year-long project that involves interstate paving operations in Aroostook and Penobscot Counties. Crews will be paving segments of the northbound side of I-95 (including some highway bridges and ramps) on a 13-mile-long stretch of interstate that begins just north of T2 R9 Wels and ends at the Herseytown Township line. MaineDOT will be paving and making other improvements to the Visitor Information Center in Medway and the Katahdin Scenic Overlook in T1 R6. This project also involves clearing the Sherman interchange to increase visibility to cut down on deer strikes. Work on the second year of this project began today and is scheduled to be finished by the end of July. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in work areas, and there will be overnight lane closures during paving operations. The contractor on this project is Northeast Paving of Hampden. The contract amount is $9,127,167.
