Bangor ? As work continues on the Union Street Bridge in Bangor, crews will close the northbound lanes over the bridge tonight (Wednesday, June 10) from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Motorists are advised to follow the appropriate construction signage and detour routes to drive through the work zones safely.
The 54-year-old, four-lane overpass is being replaced with an $8.8 million bridge that will take 2.5 years to build.
The new bridge will have an additional lane to relieve congestion, higher clearance for vehicles passing beneath on I-95 and six-foot sidewalks. Because of its proximity to I-95, the Bangor International Airport and the Bangor campus of the University of Maine, there are often backups and delays - even without construction. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes or allow extra travel time.
