Bridge Replacement in Windham Will Require River Road Closure

WINDHAM - Beginning on Monday, July 27th, the Maine Department of Transportation will be closing part of River Road in Windham for ten days to accommodate bridge replacement work. We are replacing Doles Bridge, which carries River Road over Colley Wright Brook. The project area is one-third of a mile west of Alweber Road. Traffic from Windham to Westbrook will be detoured to Routes 25, 237, and 202. The detour length is approximately nine miles. The contractor, Shaw Brothers Construction of Gorham, will be placing detour signs this week. We plan to reopen this part of River Street by the end of the day on Wednesday, August 5th.

This bridge replacement is part of a larger project that involves full reconstruction of more than three miles of River Road in Windham. The total project cost is $9.7 million. Once this project is finished, MaineDOT will have rebuilt nearly the entire stretch of River Road. Our estimated project completion date is June 19th, 2021.
