Federally Required MaineCare Off-Cycle Provider Revalidation Plan: October 2026 Update

As previously communicated, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requested all states develop and submit a comprehensive two-year provider revalidation strategy, with priority given to revalidating high-risk providers.

You can find Maine’s two-year plan and a list of all providers included in the off-cycle revalidation on the Office of MaineCare Services (OMS) Federally Required 2026-2028 Off-Cycle Revalidation Plan webpage. OMS grouped providers into five cohorts and sends notices alerting providers at least 30 days prior to initiating the revalidation window for their assigned cohort. OMS additionally sends a 60-day post-initiation notice, per standard revalidation practices.

Milestones to note:

Cohorts 1 & 2: Individual high-risk providers, providers without an NPI, Personal Care Agencies, Home Health Agencies, Hospice, and Assisted Living Services providers

  • On July 19, 2026, OMS mailed a 30-day notice to impacted providers in Cohorts 1 and 2 announcing that their revalidation window would open on August 17, 2026.
  • Providers in Cohorts 1 and 2 who do not submit a revalidation case by Friday October 16, 2026, will have claims pend until they submit their revalidation case.
  • Providers who miss the October 16th deadline will have until November 16, 2026, to submit their revalidation case. Any provider who has not submitted a required revalidation case by that date will be terminated effective November 17, 2026.

You can find more information about the provider revalidation process on our Provider Enrollment and Revalidation webpage.
