Data Center Operations [Hosting & Housing]

Overview

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) Data Center Operations provides facility infrastructure to include power, environmental control, network connection, operational monitoring, located in a secure data center facility. This service offering comes in two categories – hosting and housing.

Included

Primary DataCenter

  • All systems are designed to be concurrently maintainable and redundant
  • Redundant conditioned power to include street power, standby generator and UPS (uninterruptable power supply)
    • Dual power busses available for all racks
    • Standard power hookup 120-volt/20-amp single phase A/C
  • HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) N+1 configuration and each rack is designed for 4.5Kva load
  • Network connections – All racks are provided with redundant network feeds; dual network connections are available at 1GbE and 10GbE protected by LACP
  • Fire suppression
  • Security – data center is monitored 24x7x365 by Building Control; building access is controlled by card readers
  • All personnel must pass a background check to work in the data center
  • Operational monitoring:
    • All HVAC and power systems are monitored 24x7x365
    • Critical network paths are continuously monitored with next day resolution
  • Rack space
  • Internet access up to 1Mbps per server

Secondary Data Center

  • Redundant conditioned power to include street power and standby generator
    • Standard power hookup 120-volt/20-amp single phase A/C
  • HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) N+1 configuration and each rack is designed for 2.5Kva load
  • Network connections – All racks are provided with redundant network feeds; dual network connections are available at 1GbE and 10GbE protected by LACP.
  • Fire suppression
  • Security – Data center is monitored 24x7x365 by Building Control; building access is controlled by card readers
  • All personnel must pass a background check to work in the data center
  • Operational monitoring:
    • All HVAC and power systems are monitored 24x7x365
    • Critical network paths are continuously monitored with next day resolution
    • Water leak detection
  • Rack space
  • Internet access up to 1Mbps per server

Service Level Targets & Availability

  • A formal SLA has not been developed specific to this service
  • Default coverage is 7AM – 5PM, Monday – Friday
  • 24x7 coverage is available for systems with a specific need for this type of coverage; to have 24x7 coverage, OIT needs to receive a written business justification
  • Once justification has been approved, OIT works with the business on a service level agreement for the specific systems
  • Additional charges associated with extended coverage will be defined in the SLA

Customer Expectations / Responsibilities

  • Attend OIT design review prior to project kickoff to collaborate on possible solutions
  • Ensure the OIT Footprints Tickets is filled out with an accurate description of expected use and billing code.
    • Data Center New Server Install form will be completed
  • Access to the data center requires a background check, including vendors
  • Minimum of 30-day lead time for all new equipment installs
