 MaineDOT to Start Work on Dover Bridge Replacement Project

Drivers should plan ahead for detours as the bridge replacement takes place.

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Feb. 12, 2026 — Starting February 18, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will begin work on a bridge replacement project for the Dover Bridge (Essex Street Bridge) over the Piscataquis River in Dover-Foxcroft. Crews will be working on replacing Dover Bridge as well as 120 feet of approach work on each side of the bridge. The project location begins at the intersection of Essex and River Street and ends at the intersection of Essex and Lincoln Street.

The bridge over Essex Street will be closed to through traffic from February 18, 2026, to December 2027.

Drivers and pedestrians should follow the detour map and detour signs while on site. 

Motorists should expect delays and use caution when traveling through the detour zone.

MaineDOT appreciates the public’s patience with this project.

This project is expected to be completed by November 2028.

The contractor for this project is Wyman & Simpson of Richmond, Maine. The contract amount is $10,594,943.01. This project is using Congressionally Directed Spending.
