Where: Virtual, please register in advance.

You are invited to join a Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) briefing to learn about plans to implement federal changes to Medicaid (in Maine, MaineCare) eligibility that will go into effect on January 1, 2027.

During this webinar, the DHHS Office for Family Independence (OFI) and Office of MaineCare Services (OMS) will provide an overview of upcoming changes to MaineCare eligibility for Expansion Adults:

  • New Work Requirements;

  • Coverage renewals every 6 months instead of every 12 months; and

  • Retroactive coverage of 1 month instead of 3 months.

MaineCare Expansion members are adults between 19 and 64 years old who get MaineCare based on their income. They do not meet the Social Security disability guidelines or have Medicare. OFI and OMS will also provide an update on planning for implementation and communications.

We are also pleased to share the Partner Communications Toolkit, which can be found at MaineCare.gov/work. This toolkit includes materials you can download and print or include in your digital and social media channels to reach the populations in your community that will need to know more and take action to meet the new federal Work Requirements for Medicaid.

Important Timelines to Note:

  • August 24, 2026: Partner briefing focused on what to know

  • Beginning August 19, 2026: OFI will send knowledge building letters and text messages to MaineCare Expansion Adults
