Prescribing Providers Must Enroll in MaineCare

Beginning September 1, 2025, MaineCare will only pay for prescriptions that are from providers who are enrolled with MaineCare.

Full or Non-Ordering, Prescribing and Referring Provider (NOPR) Enrollment options are available.

The 21st Century Cures Act requires MaineCare to enroll all providers furnishing services to Medicaid beneficiaries. This means that MaineCare will only pay for prescriptions that are written by providers who are enrolled as a MaineCare Provider. If you do not want to enroll as a MaineCare Provider who accepts MaineCare payments you may enroll as a Non-Ordering, Prescribing and Referring Provider (NOPR). A NOPR enrollment meets the requirement of the 21st Century Cures Act and assures your patient(s) and our member(s) continue to receive coverage for the medications you prescribe for them.
