New MaineCare Partner Portal: Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Requirements

As a reminder, the new MaineCare Partner Portal is scheduled to go live on October 12, 2026, at 8:00 AM. The new portal will replace the current HealthPAS Online Portal and will require Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Read below for more information and steps you will need to take to sign into the MaineCare Partner Portal starting on October 12.

For all information about the upcoming changes to MIHMS, see the “HealthPAS Online Portal” section of the Provider Resources page.

Multi-Factor Authenticator (MFA)

MFA adds a second verification step after entering your password. This is an important new security measure to protect the sensitive information held in the Portal. You will have three options to choose from for your additional authentication factor; you must choose one.

Follow the instructions below for first-time setup of the option you choose.

  1. Microsoft Authenticator

The Microsoft Authenticator app is the recommended MFA method because it offers the highest level of protection over other methods. Download the Microsoft Authenticator app now on a smartphone or tablet so that you are ready to use it on October 12.

No sooner than October 12, follow these steps to set up MFA via the app:

Trading Partners with existing (migrated) Portal accounts:

  • Open the Microsoft Authenticator app.
  • Click “Sign In” on the MaineCare Partner Portal; you will see a User Details window pop up.
  • Click the QR code scanner in the Microsoft Authenticator app and scan the QR code displayed on the Portal’s User Details window.

Trading Partners without existing (new or non-migrated) Portal accounts will set this up as part of the registration process.

  1. Text/Call

Text (SMS) or call verification is available as an MFA option through September 2027.

No sooner than October 12, follow these steps to set up MFA via text (SMS) or call:

Trading Partners with existing (migrated) Portal accounts:

  • Click “Sign In” on the MaineCare Partner Portal; you will see a User Details window pop up.
  • Select the “Text/call” option then click “Continue.”
  • Enter a phone number, request a code or call, then verify the code. The phone number you provide during setup will be saved as your registered MFA contact method and will be used for future authentication and account verification activities.

Trading Partners without existing (new or non-migrated) Portal accounts will set this up as part of the registration process.

  1. Email

Email verification is available as an MFA option through September 2027.

No sooner than October 12, follow these steps to set up MFA via email:

Trading Partners with existing (migrated) Portal accounts:

  • Click “Sign In” on the MaineCare Partner Portal; you will see a User Details window pop up.
  • Select the “Email” option then click “Continue.”
  • Enter an email address, request a code, then verify the code. The email address you provide during setup will be saved as your registered MFA contact method and will be used for future authentication and account verification activities.

Trading Partners without existing (new or non-migrated) Portal accounts will set this up as part of the registration process.
