New Features

The Maine Prescription Monitoring Program is excited to announce that it has launched new, online waiver request processes for prescribers and dispensers.

Prescribers can now request waivers from the Electronic Prescribing mandate online. Once logged into the Maine PMP at maine.pmpaware.net, click on Menu, under the Waivers heading, click on Individual Request for E-Prescribing Waiver. This new process makes it significantly easier to request a waiver and speeds up the approval process.

These requests must be done by the prescriber and takes only a few minutes to complete and submit.

Dispensers are now able to request a waiver from Controlled Substance Reporting Requirements, also known as the Pharmacy Waiver. This waiver request is available on the Log-In page at maine.pmpaware.net. Under the log-in fields, the request is available here:

The Maine Prescription Monitoring Program is pleased to announce these new improvements to the user experience that will save time, allowing more time to be dedicated to patient care. As always, user feedback is welcome. Comments can be shared via e-mail at pmp@maine.gov or by telephone at 207-287-2595 and by choosing Option 2.

Keep an eye out for announcements of the next Governor’s Opioid Response Summit coming up this Summer!

“One of the drivers of heroin has been the misuse of pain medication. If we're gonna deal with heroin and heroin use in the United States, we really have to focus on reducing the magnitude of the prescription drug use issue.” Michael Botticelli

User Profiles

Each person registered in the Prescription Monitoring Program is allowed ONE account. When circumstances change, please do not create another registration. Contact the PMP to update anything that changed.

Do not create another registration if you change employment, have a name change, or if your role has changed.

A member of the Prescription Monitoring Program will assist with updating your PMP Profile information. Call us at (207) 287-2595 and choose Option 2 (Monday through Friday 8:00-4:30).

User Highlight - Delegate

Things for Delegates to consider

Delegates should take the time to review their list of supervisors. It is important to have an accurate list of supervisors.

  • When running patient reports on behalf of prescribing supervisors, ensure the correct prescriber is selected.
  • Do not “lump” all patients under a single supervisor. The system tracks searches and these searches must reflect the correct prescribing supervisor.
  • If delegates change supervisors, update your supervisor list immediately by removing supervisors that you no longer work with and adding new supervisors as needed.
  • Delegates may have as many supervisors as needed. When adding new supervisors, the system will send the supervisor an e-mail asking them to approve you as a delegate. You should also notify the supervisor that you have requested them and you will need to be approved before you can run reports on their behalf.
  • Do not share accounts. Everyone must have their own.

System Highlight – Organizational Management

The PMP website is happy to announce a new feature called Organizational Management (OM)

  • This is made available to Chief Medical Officers and Supervising Prescribers in hospitals and practices across the state of Maine.
  • This feature allows supervising prescribers access to subordinate prescribers’ prescription histories for training, education and collaboration on treatment.
  • Each facility is allowed up to 2 administrators.
  • To include your facility in OM, contact the PMP so that the proper permissions can be applied to administrator accounts and to receive the OM User Guide.
  • A member of the PMP Team will be available to assist in implementing OM for your organization and to answer any questions.

The Maine Office of Behavioral Health will cover the licensing fees associated with the integration service for approved providers in Maine that elect to connect their EHR to PMP Gateway.

PMP Gateway Integration

PMP Gateway delivers PDMP data and NarxCare Analytics within the PDMP works saving uses an average of 4.2 minutes per a transaction.

As part of the latest enhancements to the State of Maine’s PMP system, OBH has expanded the means by which prescribers and pharmacists can obtain access to their patients’ controlled substance drug use information. Those access points include:

  1. Via the PMPAWARxEplatform
  2. Via the AWARxE PMP Gateway EHR application
  3. Via the State of Maine’s Health Information Exchange (HIE) Clinical Portal system
  4. Via RxCheck (coming soon)
