Since reserving a corporate name in the State of Maine is for future use only, the Division of Corporations permits the filing of name reservations that contain the word or words "savings", "savings bank", "bank", "banker", "banking", "trust", "trust company", "trust and banking company", "credit union", the plural of any of these words or words or any derivatives of these terms.
The Maine Secretary of State will only accept for filing the UCC forms that were most recently adopted by the International Association of Commercial Administrators. These forms are provided below in Acrobat (.PDF) format. If you wish to complete the forms on-screen, you need to download a version of the Adobe Reader by visiting the Adobe website. To use one of these fillable forms, simply complete on-screen, print and mail to our office together with the proper filing fee.
The portal administrator for Maine.gov, the Information Resource of Maine (InforME), provides database downloads on behalf of the Department of the Secretary of State. For further information on obtaining bulk data/images, please email InforME at info@informe.org or call 207-621-2600.
We are open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Division of Corporations files nonprofit and business corporations, limited partnerships, limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships and marks. There is no provision under Maine law for filing trade names of sole proprietorships or general partnerships at the state level.
