MDIFW NEWS - Wallagrass man dies today in ATV crash

A Wallagrass man is dead this evening as a result of an ATV crash in that town. At about 4:00 this afternoon, Gerard Belanger, 92, of Wallagrass, Maine was involved in a fatal ATV crash. Belanger had been cutting tree length wood with his son on his woodlot when the incident occurred. Belanger was using his CAN-AM 500cc ATV and a log hauling trailer to move logs from the woodlot to a log pile behind his residence.

Belanger was attempting to haul a large log down a moderately sloped hill when it appears the weight of the log caused the trailer and ATV to become unstable and crash. Belanger was ejected from the ATV at some point when he lost control. Belanger was located by his son after he did not return to the woodlot. Belanger was transported by ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC) in Fort Kent. Belanger died at NMMC shortly after 6:00 this evening from his injuries. This incident remains under investigation.
