MaineDOT Announces Partial Closures of Frank J. Wood Bridge

Brunswick/Topsham, ME — Beginning Sunday, September 22, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will close the Frank J. Wood Bridge to northbound traffic for a period of 89 consecutive days (excluding national holidays).

During this time, northbound traffic traveling from Brunswick to Topsham will be detoured via the Topsham Bypass and Route 196.

The bridge will remain open to southbound traffic throughout the 89-day closure, with one exception: there will be six overnight full closures, during which both directions of traffic will be restricted. These closures will occur between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Dates for these overnight closures have not yet been scheduled, but electronic message boards will provide advance notice and detour instructions to drivers.

Construction work on the new bridge is expected to be substantially complete in late 2026, with traffic anticipated to begin using the new structure before the project’s final completion.

The contractor for this project is Reed & Reed, Inc. of Woolwich, and the construction contract totals $49.9 million.
