Workshop Topics:
"Repairing and Maintaining Gravel Roads for Water Quality" by John Maclaine, DEP; The Non-Point Source Training Center Coordinator. He will present ways to maintain and repair gravel roads. Some of the topics include; drainage, ditches, crowns, culverts, issues of storm damage and washouts, and how maintaining gravel roads helps to protect our waterbodies.
"Legal Aspects of Administrative Operations" by Attorneys Mary Denison of Lake & Denison, Winthrop, Maine, and John Cunningham of Eaton & Peabody, Brunswick, Maine. They will present on topics related to the Private Ways Statutes, 23 MRSA 3101-3106 including documentation, notice of claim forms, filing with small claims court, tracking property ownership and dealing with damage by developers or land owners. Ample time will be provided for questions and answers.
"Encouraging Member Participation" by Roberta Manter, MARA Board Member and Legislative Liaison, and founder of Maine ROADWays (Residents & Owners on Abandoned & Discontinued Ways.) She will facilitate a discussion and brainstorming session on various ways to increase attendance at annual meetings and encourage members to be actively involved in their road.
