The National Green Infrastructure Certification Program (NGICP) provides the base-level skill set needed for entry-level workers to properly construct, inspect and maintain Green Infrastructure (GI). Designed to meet international best practice standards, NGICP is a tool that can be used to meet a wide range of needs, including professional development for existing GI professionals and as part of a larger workforce development to provide candidates with the technical skills necessary to enter the green workforce and earn a livable wage. Because the NGICP is designed to meet international best practice standards, the implementation of the program is done with impartiality and objectivity, ensuring that all applicants and certified individuals are treated fairly. The implementation of NGICP is governed by By Laws and a Policy and Procedures Manual. NGICP is a new program that is growing and constantly evolving, therefore suggestions regarding how program implementation can be improved are always welcome.
The National Green Infrastructure Program is taught by certified instructors and consists of 35 hours of remote instruction followed successful completion of a paper exam to receive the credential.
Please note that it is mandatory to attend all live (remote) sessions of the course to qualify to take the exam. The course schedule is:
Wednesdays & Thursdays: Feb 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, 27 from 5:30-8:30pm
Saturdays: Feb 15 & 22 from 8:30am-5:30pm
The cost of the program is $850, and funding assistance is available. For Maine residents who work for Maine companies or who are self-employed in "front line" Maine businesses, there is 50% funding assistance through the Harold Alfond Compact. The employer (or self-employed individual) should go to https://alfondcenter.mccs.me.edu/join-the-compact, click on Join the Compact, and then at the bottom of the page click on Get Started.
For those who do not meet Alfond eligibility requirements, Native Gardens of Blue Hill has a limited number of scholarships available for 50% of the course fee. Please inquire at info@ngbh.org to be sent the scholarship application form.
Once you are ready to proceed with sign-up, contact Native Gardens of Blue Hill at info@ngbh.org. At that time payment will be requested and instructions to enroll in the course with Envirocert will be sent to you. A discount code will be provided to cover the application and registration fee on the Envirocert website.
