Application for Solid Waste Processing Facility (Application # S-100033)
The application is for a proposed biosolids processing facility on Cyro Drive in the City of Sanford. The new facility proposes to accept up to 500 wet tons per day of biosolids cake by truck from Maine, southern New Hampshire, and eastern Massachusetts, and process up to 450 wet tons per day using dryers and a fluidized bed gasifier. The gasifier would produce gases and biochar; the gases would be combusted in a thermal oxidizer to produce heat for the drying process and a portion of the electricity needed for facility operations, and the biochar would be disposed of in a secure landfill.
The solid waste processing facility application was accepted for processing on January 28, 2026.

Application for Air Emission License (Application # A-1195-71-A-N)
The application is for a proposed biosolids processing facility on Cyro Drive in the City of Sanford. The facility plans to utilize a proprietary gasification technology to convert biosolids to biochar and usable energy. The gasifier will fire natural gas for startup and will require no additional fuel once it reaches operating temperature. Proposed air pollution controls for the facility include dry sorbent injection for the control of sulfur dioxide emissions, selective catalytic reduction and low-NOx burners for the control of emissions of nitrogen oxides, and a catalytic ceramic filter for the control of particulate emissions. Aries has conducted a modeling analysis to evaluate the facility’s expected impacts on ambient air quality as part of the air emission license application process.
The air emission license application was accepted for processing on February 3, 2026.
