Maine's Drug Take Back Program Stewardship Submissions

The State of Maine Department of Environmental Protection (the Department) is responsible for the oversight of the new Drug Take Back Program, 38 M.R.S. 1612 signed into law by Governor Mills on June 8, 2021. Proposals from Stewardship Organizations (SOs) for the pharmaceutical manufacturers required to participate in this program were required to be submitted to the Department by July 1st, 2022. The SOs will provide the collection and disposal service setups for the new program, including public outreach and educational components. We received 4 proposals prior to the deadline from organizations wishing to participate in the program:

• Inmar
• Med-Project
• Olympia
• ScieGen

The Department is posting the Proposals and opening them to public comment for 30 days. Written comments are preferred and may be sent to robert.r.burks@maine.gov or to DrugTakeBack@maine.gov.
