Draft Food Contact Chemicals of High Concern Criteria Documentation

Comment deadline: March 10, 2021

As directed by Maine law 32 MRSA 1742, the Department has identified 10 food contact chemicals of high concern which meet listing criteria on the basis of credible scientific evidence (32 MRSA 1742(1)).

Maine law authorizes the Department to directly publish this list, but the Department is choosing to solicit public input on this draft list until March 10, 2021.

Comments may include suggested changes to this draft list of chemicals. Any comment suggesting modification to this draft list must be accompanied by evaluation documentation that meets the chemical listing conditions defined by Maine Statute 32 MRSA 1742(1). In order for such comments to be considered, documentation must include specific references which meet the statutory definition for inclusion and may be directly accessed by the Department for review. Proposed changes will be carefully considered by the Department using the same weight of evidence process applied in the development of this initial draft. Should there be substantive changes to this draft list the Department may provide an additional public comment period prior to publishing a final chemical list.

Comments and accompanying documentation may be submitted to the agency contact prior to the deadline of 5:00 P.M. March 10, 2021.
