Whether you are looking to sight in your firearm for an upcoming hunting season, target practice, or shoot a firearm for the very first time, you are invited to MDIFW’s two state-owned shooting ranges in Fryeburg and Augusta.
Members of the public are also encouraged to take advantage of numerous privately operated shooting ranges throughout the state, see map of shooting ranges, including contact information.
State Owned Shooting Ranges
Please bring your own targets. Eye and ear protection is required when using the ranges. Food and drinks are not allowed within the shooting area.
Fryeburg Shooting Range
The Fryeburg Shooting Range is located at the Fish and Game Road in Fryeburg, Maine. The Fryeburg Shooting Range is open for firearms only.
Note: The Fryeburg shooting range is going to be undergoing some major changes with reconstruction. We plan for Range time for periods of time at a LIMITED BASIS before Construction Starts. Once Construction Starts the Range will be closed until completed. Staffing MUST BE ON Site and the Range Schedule and Posted to be Opened. DO NOT USE THE RANGE UNLESS STAFFED.

Summerhaven Shooting Range (Augusta)
Summerhaven Shooting Range is located at 211 Sanford Road in Augusta, Maine. Open for firearms and archery.

Range Times
The state-owned shooting ranges are restricted to time periods when an approved Range Safety Officer is present. This restriction has been enacted to help ensure safe shooting practices at the site. Range Safety Officers at the range are trained and certified volunteers who donate their time to ensure safe shooting practices at the range.
Fryeburg Public Range Time
NOTE: The Fryeburg Range is Opened Per Schedule. Use of the Fryeburg Range is only allowed with the presence of a Department Trained RSO on the Range and Scheduled time posted on the IFW Website.
ATTENTION: AS OF 11/16/2022 THE MDIFW FRYEBURG RANGE IS CLOSED FOR THE SEASON DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER AND SNOW AND ICE COVER ON THE RANGE.
Summerhaven Public Range Time
The Archery Range is CLOSED for the season as of Friday, November 18, 2022. Thank you for your attendance in 2022
The schedule may be adjusted as needed to meet the needs of our RSO's; Please Check the Range Schedule the day that you plan to visit for any changes.
Ammunition with Projectiles that are attracted to a Magnet are NOT allowed at the Summerhaven Range.

Note: In the case of severe inclement weather (major storm or heavy winds) the range will be closed. If the sign at the end of the road is up, the range is open.
Archery at Summerhaven Range
Summerhaven Archery Information: All archery equipment is welcome including longbows, compounds, recurves, and crossbows. The range has six permanent shooting stations ranging from 15 to 25 yards and some movable targets with ranges out to 30 yards. You are welcome to bring your own bag or block target if you choose to do so. Broadheads and hunting tips are not allowed on the range during regular range times, however, be on the lookout for special sight-in days where users can try out their broadheads and hunting gear to get ready for the season. Eye and ear protection is recommended.
Law Enforcement Training
The range is available for use by Law Enforcement Agencies to meet their training needs. Agencies wishing to reserve range time, please contact Craig Gerry, MDIFW Shooting Range Coordinator at (207) 446-4249.
