COVID-19 Guidelines for MDIFW Shooting Ranges (PDF)
NRA-certified Range Safety Officers that are interested in volunteering their time to monitor shooting activity at the range can contact Craig Gerry, MDIFW Shooting Range Coordinator, for more information at (207) 446-4249 or by email.
Members of the public are also encouraged to take advantage of numerous privately operated shooting ranges throughout the state, see map of shooting ranges, including contact information.
Fryeburg Shooting Range
NOTE: Shooters are required to adhere to the COVID-19 Guidelines while they are at the range.
The Fryeburg Shooting Range is located at the Fish and Game Road in Fryeburg, Maine.
Use of the Fryeburg Shooting Range is restricted to time periods when an approved Range Safety Officer is present. This restriction has been enacted to help ensure safe shooting practices at the site. Range Safety Officers at the range are trained and certified volunteers who donate their time to ensure safe shooting practices at the range.
Please bring your own targets. Eye and ear protection is required when using the range.
Fryeburg Shooting Range will be open to the public on the days listed below.
Note: In the case of severe inclement weather (major storm or heavy winds) the range will be closed. If the sign at the end of the road is up, the range is open.
The Fryeburg Range is Closed for the Season as of November 2, 2020.
Summerhaven (Augusta) Shooting Area – Open for Firearms and Archery
Note: Shooters are required to adhere to the COVID-19 Guidelines while they are at the range.
Summerhaven Shooting Range is located at 211 Sanford Road in Augusta, Maine.
Use of the Summerhaven Shooting Range is restricted to time periods when an approved Range Safety Officer is present. This restriction has been enacted to help ensure safe shooting practices at the site. Range Safety Officers at the range are trained and certified volunteers who donate their time to ensure safe shooting practices at the range.
Archery Information: All archery equipment is welcome including longbows, compounds, and crossbows. The range has six permanent shooting stations ranging from 15 to 25 yards and some movable targets with ranges out to 30 yards. You are welcome to bring your own bag or block target if you choose to do so. Broadheads are not allowed on the range during regular range times, however, be on the lookout for special sight-in days where users can try out their broadheads and hunting gear to get ready for the season. Eye and ear protection is recommended.
Firearms Information: Please bring your own targets. Eye and ear protection is required when using the range.
The range is available for use by Law Enforcement Agencies to meet their training needs. Agencies wishing to reserve range time, please contact Craig Gerry, MDIFW Shooting Range Coordinator at (207) 446-4249.
Food and drinks are not allowed within the shooting area.
