MDIFW NEWS: $3,000 Reward Offered for Information in Canada Lynx Killing in Perham

PERHAM, Maine - Maine Operation Game Thief, in cooperation with Maine Warden Service, is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the illegal killing of a Canada lynx in the town of Perham, Maine.

On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Maine Game Wardens responded to a report of a dead Canada lynx along Mouse Island Road in Perham, Maine. An investigation determined the lynx did not die of natural causes. Evidence collected at the scene and during the investigation indicates the animal was shot and killed within approximately 24 hours of its discovery.

The Canada lynx is a federally protected species. It is a federal offense to harass, trap, hunt, or kill a lynx in the contiguous United States. The shooting of this animal was unnecessary, conducted without regard for its protected status, and left to waste.
