MDIFW NEWS: Game Warden Divers Recover Body Of 15-Year-Old Farmington Boy
HALLOWELL, Maine - The Maine Warden Service dive team recovered the body of a 15-year-old boy who apparently drowned after jumping off a ledge at the Hallowell Quarry.
At approximately 1:30 this afternoon, the Maine Warden Service and the Hallowell Police Department received a 911 call that a 15-year-old Farmington boy, who was swimming with three other friends of similar age at the Hallowell Quarry, had jumped off one of the ledges, landed awkwardly in the water, and struggled to swim before he went under and never resurfaced. Members of the Maine Warden Service, Hallowell Police, Maine State Police, Augusta Fire Department, Hallowell Fire Department, and the Manchester Fire Department all immediately responded to the scene, and attempted to recover the body with a drone, boats and free-diving but were unsuccessful.
At approximately 5:40 this evening, a Maine Warden Service diver was able to recover the body in approximately 25 feet of water. The boy was transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office where a cause of death will be determined.
The Maine Warden Service was assisted at the scene by the Hallowell Police Department, Maine State Police, Augusta Fire Department, Hallowell Fire Department, and the Manchester Fire Department.
