Maine Warden Service Responds To Deceased Hiker On Notch Trail In Grafton

GRAFTON TWP., Maine - Maine Game wardens and volunteers assisted in carrying out a woman who passed away while hiking the Notch Trail in Grafton TWP yesterday. At approximately 12:20 yesterday afternoon, game wardens received a call that a 74-year-old-female, Denise Cretella of Clinton, Connecticut, had collapsed while hiking on the Notch trail. The husband performed CPR to try and revive her but was unsuccessful and she passed away. Maine Game Wardens, and members of the Newry Fire department, Errol (NH) Ambulance, Maine Forest Service and Mahoosuc Mountain Rescue assisted in getting Cretella off the mountain and to Thibault's Funeral Home in Rumford where she will be examined by a member of the state Medical Examiners Office. The death is not considered suspicious.
