I-295 Northbound in Richmond to Close Starting Sunday

Richmond ? Due to the failure of a culvert under the northbound lanes of I-295 in Richmond, MaineDOT is temporarily closing a section of the northbound lanes of I-295 beginning at noon on Sunday June 7th and reopening by the morning commute on Wednesday, June 10th.

Northbound motorists will exit I-295 at the Richmond Exit 43 and will be detoured along Routes 197, 138 and 201 and then back on I-295 in Gardiner at Exit 49.

Sidewalk Improvement Work in Portland

Portland ? Crews have started improvement work on sidewalks and curbs on Commercial and Franklin Streets in Portland.

While the impact to vehicular traffic is minimal, pedestrians and bicyclists are urged to use caution in the area. This work will continue for most of this season, with paving scheduled for 2016.

In mid-July of this year, crews will be doing similar work in the area of High and York Streets.

Casco Bay Bridge Down to One Lane Northbound

South Portland ? The Casco Bay Bridge, linking Portland and South Portland over the Fore River, will be down to one lane northbound on Tuesday, June 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Crews will be performing electrical work on new lights that have been installed on the sidewalk over the bascule area (the bridge opening). This will increase visibility of pedestrians for the draw tenders in the evening hours as well as in heavy fog.

Motorists may experience slight delays traveling from South Portland into Portland while this work is being performed.

I-95 Northbound to Close Over Union Street Bridge

Bangor ? As work continues on the Union Street Bridge in Bangor, crews will close the northbound lanes over the bridge tonight (Wednesday, June 10) from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Motorists are advised to follow the appropriate construction signage and detour routes to drive through the work zones safely.

The 54-year-old, four-lane overpass is being replaced with an $8.8 million bridge that will take 2.5 years to build.

Western Avenue Bridge in Waterville to Close

Waterville ? The Western Avenue Bridge which spans Messalonskee Stream in Waterville will close at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16th.

Motorists are advised to follow the detour signs and to drive courteously through the residential area.

This sixty-eight year old bridge is being replaced with a new bridge that is scheduled to open on August 27th, 2015.

This $738,000 project will be performed by Stetson & Watson of Pittsfield.

Culvert Replacement to Begin in Waldoboro

Waldoboro ? Crews will be replacing a deteriorated culvert on Route 32 in Waldoboro beginning on Tuesday, June 16th.

The project is located just southeast of the Hannaford Supermarket, approximately 1000ft. south of the intersection of Route 1 and Route 32.

Northbound traffic will be detoured onto Main Street to Route 1 to Route 32.

Southbound traffic will be detoured to Jefferson Street to Main Street to Route 32.

Weather permitting, it is anticipated all work will be completed by Wednesday, June 17th.

South Bristol Gut Bridge Project Suspended as Scheduled

South Bristol ? The South Bristol Gut Bridge project has been suspended as scheduled until mid-September, 2015.

The temporary traffic lights and one lane of alternating traffic within the project limits were removed today (Wednesday, June 17). While it is currently back to a two lane traffic pattern, there is a temporary barrier and an unpaved roadway as this area is still a construction zone. Motorists should remain cautious and adhere to the posted 15mph speed limit.

Paving Project to Begin in Caribou

Caribou ? A paving project will begin through the towns of Caribou, Woodland and New Sweden beginning on Monday, June 22nd.

The project begins 0.06 of a mile north of the Woodland Center Road on Route 161B and extends northwesterly for 1.56 miles. The project continues northwesterly on Route 161 for an additional 6.16 miles, ending 0.92 of a mile north of the New Sweden/Woodland town line.
