Farm Food Access Program

SNAP/EBT Equipment for Direct Market Farms

The Maine Farm Food Access Program reimburses farms and farmers’ markets for new wireless electronic benefits transfer (EBT) machines and associated fees to process USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)-only transactions.

Program Purpose

The goal of this funding opportunity is to increase access to local foods by people using federal SNAP benefits, and to positively benefit the economy by increasing the number of farms and farmers’ markets accepting SNAP benefits in Maine.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the Maine definition of “farmers’ market” or the USDA definition of “direct-market” farm. Eligible applicants must already have a USDA FNS number. Participants will receive reimbursement for pre-approved EBT equipment, only. Equipment purchased prior to State of Maine approval will not be reimbursed.

Timeline

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until September 30, 2021 or until available funding has been allocated.
