What is it?
Firewise USA common goals:
- Reduce loss of lives, property and resources to wildland fire
- Maintain communities in a way that is compatible with our natural surroundings
- The Firewise USA Sites approach emphasizes community responsibility and involvement
New Structural Ignition Zone Poster
In 2025, the Land Use Planning Commission (LUPC) collaborated with the Maine Forest Service’s Forest Protection Division. They created a new wildfire prevention graphic to help homeowners (in both the organized towns and the unorganized territories) understand the different structural ignition zones. By removing brush, limbing volatile softwood trees and raking leaves / needles near structures, you can make your home safe from wildfire.
