The Harpswell Historical Society is dedicated to the discovery, identification, collection, preservation, interpretation, and dissemination of materials relating to the history of Harpswell and its people. Among its activities is the operation of the Society's Museum, which contains artifacts and documents relating to the colonial period, the shipbuilding and sea-faring eras, and more recent times. The museum archives also hold many important town documents and records dating back to before the Revolution. The Society cares for several historic town buildings and cemeteries, including The Old Town Meeting House, Centennial Hall, The district #2 School House, The East Harpswell Church, and the Fisherman's Memorial Statue.
