Property and Safety Checks
The Capitol Police Watchpersons check for safety or security issues at the 50 plus State owned or controlled buildings and properties in Augusta at night and on weekends. Watchpersons conducted 10,782 building or property safety and security checks in the fiscal year 2019 - 2020. They check for unlocked windows, doors and gates as well as monitor the inside of the buildings for any mechanical, electrical or safety problems. The watchpersons also look for electrical items that have been left on and might pose a fire hazard, then correct the issues. Any time they find a security or safety concern, they leave a "Night Eyes" card for the employees that work in the area to make them aware of the security and safety issues they have found.
