Inspection of the Frank J. Wood Bridge to Begin

Topsham/Brunswick ? Crews will be performing a routine inspection on the Frank J. Wood Bridge in Topsham today, Wednesday, May 21st and tomorrow, May 22nd.

These all day inspections will require northbound traffic over the bridge to be detoured via the Topsham connector and Route 1.

All southbound traffic will flow as normal with no detours.

Northbound motorists may experience slight delays during the two-day inspection of this bridge.

Route 115 Bridge in Yarmouth to Get New Surface

Yarmouth ? For a period of four weeks beginning on Tuesday, May 27th, crews will be installing a new concrete wearing surface on the Route 115 Bridge that spans the railroad tracks.

During the duration of the project there will be alternating one-way traffic over the bridge. Signs will alert motorists as they approach.

The scope of work will include removing one side of the wearing surface at a time, then replacing with new concrete. The new concrete requires a curing time of one week before traffic will be allowed on the new surface.

Paving on Broadway in South Portland to Require Detour

South Portland ? The remaining paving operations on Broadway in South Portland will require an approximately 1.7 mile detour beginning tomorrow. (Thursday, May 29th)

The paving will take place on Broadway between Route 1 at Cash Corner to Westbrook Street. (Route 9) Westbound traffic will be detoured at Cash Corner and sent south on Route 1 to Westbrook Street from 7:00 a.m. to approximately 6 p.m.

It is anticipated this detour will be in place for three days but is weather dependent, so the schedule is subject to change.

Paving Operations to Begin in Biddeford

Biddeford/Dayton/Hollis/Lyman ? Crews are performing a paving operation on Route 5 in Biddeford 0.31 miles after the northern intersection of New County Road and extending northerly on Route 5 for 7.57 miles. The project will end in Lyman at the intersection of Hollis Road. (Route 202)

In addition to paving, there will also be shoulder and guardrail improvements.

Motorists will experience occasional alternating one-way traffic along this route.

It is anticipated all work will be completed by the end of August.

Paving Operation to Begin in Lebanon and Sanford

Lebanon/Sanford ? Crews are performing a paving operation on Route 202 beginning at the New Hampshire state line extending easterly on Route 202 for 8.68 miles to a point 0.36 miles easterly of the Sanford/Lebanon town line.

Motorists traveling through the area will experience alternating one-way traffic.

This process is called ?hot-in-place recycling.? Crews will be treating the existing pavement with asphalt.

It is anticipated all work will be completed by mid-June.

MaineDOT to Begin Seasonal Vegitation Control

MaineDOT will begin its spraying season for control of vegetation in roadside locations the week of June 2nd. The Department uses herbicides to control unwanted vegetation as part of a comprehensive integrated approach that includes mowing, hand removal of brush, removal of trees that may present a risk to the travelling public and other practices combined to improve and maintain roadsides for safe travel. The program includes spraying brush to prevent trees from establishing and spraying guardrails and invasive weeds that restrict visibility and reduce safety.

Auburn Route 202 Bridge Replacement Project

Auburn ? The Oakdale Bridge, northbound on Route 202 in Auburn which spans the Little Androscoggin River, will be replaced this construction season. In order to complete the majority of the work, Route 202 northbound (also known as Washington Street northbound) will be closed to through traffic in the vicinity of the bridge. Traffic will be rerouted via Chasse Street and Philomar Street to Route 202 southbound (Washington Street southbound) which will handle both northbound and southbound through traffic during the construction.

Paving Operations to Start in the Skowhegan Area

Augusta ? Crews will be paving thirty-four miles of road beginning on Monday, June 2nd. As the crews move from town to town, motorists will experience alternating one-way traffic patterns.

The paving will start and end at the following locations:

  • Canaan, Hartland ? from the junction of Route 23 Hartland Road and route 2 northerly to the junction of Route 23 and Main Street in Hartland

  • Embden ? The intersection of Dunbar Hill Road, Fahi Pond Road and Crosstown Road, then the intersection of Crosstown Road and Kennebec River Road. (Route 201A)
