Crash with injuries slows I-295 traffic in Portland

Portland Press Herald:

PORTLAND ? Two children were ejected from the car they were riding in during a crash on Interstate 295 in Portland, police said.

The children were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Their mother was also transported to the hospital with injuries that did not appear to be serious.

The crash occurred in the southbound lanes in the area of Tukey's Bridge, and motorists are being encouraged to seek alternate routes around the area.

Exit 15 in Yarmouth to Close on Sunday

Yarmouth ? The Exit 15 northbound off-ramp in Yarmouth will be closed this Sunday, September 15th beginning at 7 a.m. Motorists should use either Exit 10 or Exit 17 for this day only.

Crews will be placing a special ?open graded friction course? as a surface treatment on this ramp. The treatment will provide more friction on this tight radius to help keep vehicles in the lane when entering at a higher rate of speed.

It is anticipated the ramp will be open to traffic by 5 p.m.

The rain date is scheduled for Sunday, Spetember 29th.

Overnight I-295 Paving Schedule for Next Week

Portland ? Overnight paving continues on I-295 northbound from Scarborough to the Portland/Falmouth town line.

Next week?s schedule is as follows:

? Sunday, September 15th the Exit 2 on-ramp and acceleration lane will be closed for surface pavement removal and paving operations

? Monday, September 16th and Tuesday, September 17th the Exit 4 off-ramp and Route 1A to Veterans Bridge will be closed for surface pavement removal and paving operations

FRA and MaineDOT Announce Trespass Detection System

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) announced the City of Brunswick, the Northern New England Passenger Authority (NNEPRA), and the Maine Department of Transportation, among other partners, will participate in a field research program to develop and test new trespass detection and deterrent technologies. The research will consist of designing, operating, and evaluating a large-scale trespass detection and deterrent system to mitigate trespassing along several high-risk areas along the Pan Am Railway and Amtrak?s Downeaster rail line in the Brunswick area.

MaineDOT Set to Install More Centerline Rumblestrips

BERWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- In an effort to reduce the number of head-on crashes on some of Maine's most dangerous roads, the Department of Transportation will soon be installing centerline rumble strips.

While rumble strips have been a fixture on the state's interstate highways and turnpike, those run along side the lanes of travel and seek to alert motorists who may have fallen asleep behind the wheel, the new centerline rumble strips divide the lanes of travel and will alert drivers if they drift out of their lane.

Bridge Repair Work in Hallowell

Hallowell ? Crews are performing surface repairs on the Milliken?s Crossing Bridge on Route 201 in Hallowell today (Monday) and tomorrow, Tuesday, September 24th.

Motorists should expect slight delays with alternating one-way traffic when work starts at 9 a.m. until early afternoon both days.

It is anticipated all repairs will be completed by tomorrow (9/24) in the afternoon.

Western Avenue Construction Project

MaineDOT will begin reconstruction of a portion of Outer Western Avenue in Augusta starting Monday, September 30th . The Contractor, RJ Grondin of Gorham will begin with tree removal and installing new gas, water, sewer facilities, as well as portions of the core components of the storm water and drainage systems this fall. The work will continue into 2014 and is expected to be completed on or before August 30th, 2014.

Exit 113 Daytime Paving Schedule and Detour Routes

Augusta ? As crews continue re-constructing Exit 113 in Augusta, a new paving schedule and detour routes will be in place for Wednesday, October 2nd and Thursday, October 3rd.

From 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, the Exit 113 I-95 northbound entering traffic will be detoured from the intersection of Route 104 (West River Road) and Route 3 north along Route 104 to Lyons Road in Sidney to Exit 120.

Railroad Repairs in Leeds

Leeds- From Tuesday, October 8th through Friday, October 11th, crews will be performing repairs and making improvements to the railroad crossing on Route 219 in Leeds.

The work is located on Route 219 near the intersection of Route 106 and Route 219. Motorists will be guided away from this area with the following detour routes:

In Wayne, travelers will be directed to Route 133 to Route 106 in Livermore Falls to Route 219 in Leeds.

In Leeds, traffic will be directed from Route 219 to Route 106 in Livermore Falls to Route 133 in Wayne to Route 219 in Leeds.
