Book Discussion Facilitator

Time Commitment

6-12 hours, monthly, 9 month commitment

Purpose

To facilitate a book discussion group for adults.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Suggests reading choices
  • Helps participants select book titles
  • Coordinates dates and times with library schedule
  • Works with the library staff to advertise programs
  • Ability to research authors
  • Creates discussion questions
  • Teaches group members how to reserve books using the library's computerized catalog

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required

  • Ability to speak and understand English, and to convey a positive, friendly attitude
  • Ability to work congenially with staff, patrons, and other volunteers
  • Ability to provide dependable transportation, so as to be punctual, and the ability to be contacted by telephone, scheduling changes and meetings
  • Knowledge of popular titles and authors
  • General familiarity with libraries
  • Must feel comfortable guiding and facilitating groups
