The Bailey Library is in need of a part-time Adult Services Technician to work in our busy lakeside library. The library is a dynamic community center located in the summer resort town of Winthrop, situated between two beautiful lakes in a downtown setting, halfway between the service centers of Augusta and Lewiston.
In this position, we look to you to help create a welcoming, positive, and engaging library experience for adult members of all backgrounds and interests. In this role, you are often the first point of connection at the Adult Services Desk, providing friendly, knowledgeable service and helping members access the full range of library resources. You support the work of the Adult Services Team by assisting with daily operations, maintaining accurate customer records, and responding to questions in person, by phone, and online. You take pride in connecting customers with materials and information through strong readers' advisory, technology assistance, and thoughtful conversation. Your approachable style, attention to detail, and comfort with library technology help create an environment where patrons feel welcomed, supported, and inspired to explore, learn, and return.
ROLE:
- You provide strong readers advisory by engaging customers in conversation, understanding their interests, and connecting them with relevant books, media, and resources.
- You warmly welcome customers into our library and help create a positive, engaging experience for every patron who walks through our doors.
- You take pride in connecting members with materials quickly and efficiently.
- You register new library members and maintain accurate account records, assisting with renewals, replacements, and general account questions in person, by phone, and online.
- You assist customers in navigating the librarys catalog, digital collections, and online resources, helping them use these tools confidently and independently.
- You provide technology assistance, helping customers with computers, mobile devices, printing, and digital services.
- You assist in maintaining displays and public spaces that are visually appealing, current, and encourage discovery, particularly for adult audiences.
- You are flexible, adaptable, and willing to assist in different areas to support the overall success of the library.

- You are a friendly, approachable communicator who connects easily with adult patrons and colleagues.
- You have a working knowledge of basic library procedures, circulation practices, and lending policies.
- You are comfortable using Windows, standard PC applications, and Google products such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar.
- You are comfortable using and helping others with basic technology, including computers, smartphones, tablets, and digital resources.
- You provide excellent customer service and are committed to creating a positive experience for every member.
- You listen carefully, understand members needs, and easily connect them with the right resources or staff support.
- You work efficiently, follow directions well, and manage multiple tasks in a busy environment.
- You enjoy active, hands-on work and are comfortable with the physical demands of the role.
- You are a team player who collaborates well with others and contributes to a supportive work environment.
- You are flexible, adaptable, and open to learning in a changing environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree plus one-year experience, or equivalent 2:1 combination (see equivalency chart here)

This is a part-time position that includes paid holidays, along with generous prorated sick and vacation time.
