The Bailey Library is in need of a part-time Youth Services Technician to work in our busy lakeside library. The library is a dynamic community center located in the summer resort town of Winthrop, situated between two beautiful lakes in a downtown setting, halfway between the service centers of Augusta and Lewiston.

In this position, we look to you to help create a welcoming, positive, and engaging library experience for young people, from babies to teens, and their families or caregivers. You are often the first point of connection at the Children's Desk, providing friendly, reliable service and helping customers access the full range of library resources. You support the work of the Youth Services Team by assisting with daily operations, maintaining accurate customer records, and responding to questions in person, by phone, and online. You take pride in keeping the collection organized, accessible, and visually inviting by shelving materials, maintaining displays, and ensuring items are easy to find. Your approachable style, attention to detail, and comfort with library technology help create an environment where young people and their families feel welcome, supported, and excited to return.

ROLE:

  • You warmly welcome customers into our library and help create a positive, engaging experience for every young person and family who walk through our doors.
  • You take pride in connecting customers with materials quickly and efficiently by checking items out in accordance with library policies.
  • You register new library members and maintain accurate account records, assisting with renewals, replacements, and general account questions in person, by phone, and online.
  • You provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance by answering routine questions and helping customers navigate library resources, referring them to the appropriate staff when needed.
  • You take pride in the library and contribute to an environment where young people and families feel welcome, supported, and excited to return.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • You are a friendly, approachable communicator who connects easily with young people, families, and colleagues.
  • You are comfortable using Windows, standard PC applications, and Google products such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar.
  • You are organized, detail-oriented, and take pride in keeping materials accurate, accessible, and in their proper place.
  • You listen carefully and understand customer needs.
  • You enjoy active, hands-on work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree plus one-year experience, or equivalent 2:1 combination (see equivalency chart here)
  • Technology literacy
  • A passion for public libraries
  • Commitment to customer service

This is a part-time position that includes paid holidays, along with generous prorated sick and vacation time.
