Maine State Library ARRC Interlibrary Loan Services (ILL)
Due to issues with our building, the MSL collection is unavailable until we relocate. We are still facilitating Interlibrary Loan for our area libraries. If you have questions, contact me via this email - email@example.com.
All libraries in Androscoggin, Franklin, Kennebec, Lincoln, Oxford, Sagadahoc, Somerset counties that are NOT members of Minerva, URSUS, MILS or Balsam use the state library for ILL. MSL will lend materials or provide photocopies to other libraries outside of the assigned counties
ILL is based on a tradition of sharing resources between various types and sizes of libraries. ILL is intended to complement rather than to substitute for good library collections built and managed to meet the routine needs of local library users (From the Interlibrary Loan Code of the United States Explanatory Supplement).
If your library is routinely requesting 50 or more items per week, we strongly recommend that you consider joining either the MILS, Balsam or Minerva Consortium. Being a member of one of these groups allows your patrons to place their own holds. For more information, contact your regional liaison or visit the Maine Infonet website.
Please download, read and follow the procedures listed in the MSL ARRC ILL Manual [PDF, 257kb]
MSL adheres to the Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States and all libraries we serve must also follow these procedures.
We accept Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests via OCLC, mail, fax (207-287-5624), or through our online forms. Please choose one of the three request forms below. Fill the form out as completely as possible, with only one request per form. If you have questions, please call the ILL Office at 207-287-5641 or 1-800-322-8899.
These are the procedures we will follow in processing requests from area libraries:
- Because media items are difficult to obtains as not all libraries will lend these, we will process no more than 3 requests for audio or video per patron per week.
- Best selling books and new movies or TV series are also difficult to obtains. We will not process requests for items that have been published within the last 6 months.
- If your library has 3 overdue or billed ILL items, we will not process any requests until these items are returned or paid for.
- Any requests over the 50 limit per week, will be returned to the requesting library.
