The Louis B. Goodall Memorial Library Board of Directors is seeking a Library Director who is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and professional. The Library Director is responsible for the implementation of library policies and procedures established by the Board and for leadership to improve public library services. The Director supervises all library personnel.
The Louis B. Goodall Memorial Library is in Sanford, ME, which is a city of 21,000 residents and has many thriving businesses. Sanford is located 30-45 minutes from some of southern Maine's most beautiful beaches and coastline. There are several hiking trails in the area. Portland is only 45 minutes away.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field with experience in library administration. A Master's Degree in library/ information science from an ALA-accredited program is preferred.
- Administrative and supervisory experience required.
- Experience in budget preparation and management required.
- Management experience of 2-3 years.
Knowledge, Ability, and Skills
- Excellent human relations, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated public relations skills through newspapers, social media, public speaking, and other sources.
- Knowledge of current electronic media and technology.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with patrons, library staff, board members, and town departments.
- Ability to manage day-to-day operations and implement policies and programs.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in writing and orally to individuals and large groups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Advises, consults, and confers with board members, citizens, other library professionals, and community groups that pertain to library service.
- Develops programs that reflect the interests, needs, and diversity of the community.
- Collaborates with local schools and community groups. Stay up to date with local, state, and federal laws and regulations that pertain to public libraries.
- Prepares required library reports for local government, the Maine Library Association, Board of Directors, and other organizations.
- Actively seeks grants and prepares grant applications.
- Markets and promotes the library through various media sources.
- In addition, the candidate must be able to get along with others in a professional manner in the workplace.
Job Type: Full-Time Pay: $64,000 - $70,000
