Volunteer Speaker's Bureau Coordinator

Time Commitment

5-10 hours per month, one year commitment

Purpose

To develop, lead and train a group of volunteers who will go out into the community to speak about the vision and mission of the library. The goal is to have the speaker be a strong advocate for the library in the community, thus broadening the library's stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Library Director, develops speaking engagement objectives, speaker outlines and materials
  • Recruits, trains, supervises and recognizes public speakers
  • Identifies priority constituencies to contact for speaking engagements in conjunction with the Library Director
  • Makes calls to schedule speaker dates
  • Contacts and schedules a trained speaker to attend each engagement
  • Tracks and reports volunteer hours and speaking engagements monthly

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required

  • Commitment to the library's vision and mission
  • Ability to speak and understand English, and to convey a positive, friendly attitude
  • Ability to work congenially with staff, patrons, and other volunteers
  • Ability to provide dependable transportation, so as to be punctual, and the ability to be contacted by telephone, scheduling changes and meetings
  • General familiarity with libraries
  • Successful public speaking
  • Community contacts
  • Good telephone and organizational skils
  • Ability to meet regularly with the Library Director to plan activities, monitor progress and provide problem- solving support
