Local History/Genealogy Aide

Time Commitment

4 hours weekly, 6 month commitment

Purpose

To assist the library with various ongoing genealogy and local history indexing and preservation projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Extracts obituaries from the local newspaper
  • Extracts birth announcement from the local paper
  • Photocopies newspaper articles for the local history file
  • Prepares materials for digitization using scanning equipment

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be able to stoop, bend and reach overhead
  • Experience with general office equipment
  • Computer experience desirable
  • Ability to work harmoniously with other library employees and with patrons
  • Ability to lift and/or move materials as necessary
  • Ability to receive instruction from library staff, and the cooperation to abide by library policies and regulations
